I thought I remember someone mentioning such a thing not too long ago. I love Jalopnik, Oppo and the other sub blogs, but the political stuff from the rest of the Gawkerverse is starting to peg my “Hulk Smash” meter and I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse over the next year.

While cool, i don’t think thats what he’s looking for

Your looking for adblock pro and then you create a filter for the sidebar.

Well, I haven’t used the extension yet, but I imagine if you block, say, every Gawker author, their posts won’t show up in the “Trending On Kinja” square.

Yep, just figured that out. Thanks!

Just get ad block man, I use it, works great.

I use two forms of Adblock simultaneously.

Unfortunately, Gawker Blocker only really works by author, so it would require including all the usual Gawkerverse politics folks. Probably a bit tedious.
This may be more helpful, although it takes a bit more effort: http://tylerstyle02.kinja.com/how-to-remove-… (Removing the sidebar also kills the “popular” posts.)
Final note, and I know it’s unsolicited advice: you should consider why internet blog posts make you “Hulk Smash”. It’s not a healthy response, even if some of the content of those posts is trite and inconsistent with your own opinions. Be well, Oppbro.

I spent a good half hour fiddling with AdBlock filters the first day they changed the layout of Kinja. I hated the fact that on the PC, about 30% of the screen was WASTED on the left. AdBlock plus FTW

I’ve found that if I have the site open in a window (not maximized), there is a certain window width that makes that side-bar disappear, granting the post full width of the window. It happens when the window width is somewhere over 1000 pixels. Anything under this number, and the side-bar goes away.
You can also use your browser’s zoom feature to trigger it. Just play around with your browser until it decides there isn’t room for both.

Follow these steps:
Click where the arrow points, then highlight the left column

It was the best thing I ever did, it’s just so much less rage inducing not having to look at those effing sidebar stories.

A million times this. Better and less “firey from work”

exactly,

I don’t actually get violent, I just get tired of Gawker’s incessant liberal slant. I’m no right-wing apologist and I know full well that the intent of Gawker is to be brash and bold, but it gets old when you don’t have the exact same worldview.

Yep, did that. Works great!

Gotcha. I was a bit worried (as someone who has spent a lifetime managing anger issues) that there was something deeper and more serious. Good to hear, though.

Just installed this and added “Jalopnik eBook” to the list. What a relief.
